Moyo’s SUV Toyota Harrier collided with a stationary heavy vehicle which had run-out of fuel along Kirkman Road in Belvedere suburb around 3am on Saturday. He was admitted at the West End clinic where he passed on around 3am on Tuesday.
He is expected to be buried in his home town of Esigodini in Matabeleland South.
In a statement to the media, the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) board and the entire membership extended their condolences to the Moyo family, on the untimely and tragic passing on of Moyo.
“We received with shock and profound sadness the news of Freedom Moyo’s death. Moyo was an outstanding senior journalist who was very popular among his peers and had a very successful career in journalism. He cut his teeth in journalism as the ZBC Bureau Chief for Matabeleland South province before moving to Matabeleland North province in the same capacity,” read part of the VMCZ statement.
