The PSL’s amended constitution dictates that members of the PSL board of directors have to come from the 16 teams that make up the PSL family.
Lengthens are no longer part of the PSL after finishing fourth from the bottom in the league title race and have been relegated to the lower division. Gwasira is the major shareholder at Lengthens where he is the club patron. The other directors of the club are Irvine Mereki, Brian Mafirambudzi, John Chikochi, and Tonderai Mafuso.
PSL board chairman Twine Phiri said there would be elections to fill the void left by Gwasira.
Although the current PSL board of directors has a term that runs for the next four years, Phiri said the constitution was clear on who is supposed to constitute the leadership of the league. He said only those with positions at clubs which are in PSL can lead the league.
Lengthens who were relegated after losing 3-0 to champions Motor Action have been the in the PSL for the past three years but financial problems have seen the team lose most of their star players to other teams.
