Reformed Church University Imparts Basic Computer Skills To Masvingo Residents
Masvingo, October 28, 2013 – Residents of Masvingo are benefitting from the Reformed Church University’s basic computer skills programmes meant to boost literacy levels in the tertiary institution’s community.
The university’s department of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) has embarked on a two week computer literacy programme aimed at equipping the general public in and around Morgenster Mission with basic computer skills which are fast becoming part of peoples’ everyday lives.
Participants are taught how to use the Internet, power point, word processing, spread sheets and emails among other computer basics.
RCU Vice Chancellor Professor Wiseman Magwa said the programme was one among many life skills courses to come which will be aimed at making the university relevant to the local community.
“This is part of university service to the community aimed at making the university relevant to the public. Participants will be given certificates upon completion,” said Prof Magwa.
Prof Magwa said the general public should expect to benefit more from his institution through its social responsibility initiatives.
“It is our wish to continue helping in uplifting our community through equipping them with much needed skills in their lives. I hope that many people from Morgenster are going to enrol with us in the coming programmes,” added Prof Magwa.
The Reformed Church University which is Zimbabwe`s 4th church-owned University which was formed out of the Charter given to the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) in 2010 and presently the University is located at Morgenster Mission, about 35 kilometres south-east from Masvingo.
