Harare, November 26, 2016 – THE People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tendai Biti finally elected top lawyer Kucaca Phulu as party deputy president at a party general council meeting in Harare on Saturday.
This comes after former Water Resources Minister Sipepa Nkomo abandoned the party with a handful party politicians to join ex vice President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First last month.
Also elected for other posts were former Bulawayo mayor Thaba Moyo, who is now party chairman, Wilstaff Stimere as deputy secretary general and Sengezo Tshabangu as deputy organizing secretary.
Petros Mukwena was also appointed committee member.
In his acceptance speech after the election, Phulu pledged to work hard for PDP and the country in ensuirng the country attained democratic change.
“You have given me a job…work to do in order to achieve our goals. I will assist President Biti in ensuring that we move forward together as I will be there to respect your views and hopes for a better Zimbabwe for all,” he said.
