Rugby Sables Turn Against Coach

Senior players met with the Sables committee on Saturday in order to map the way forward ahead of the challenges that 2012 brings where they delivered a damning assessment of the coach.

The committee sought the players’ input on how they think affairs to do with the team should be handled and above many other suggestions the players called for a revamp of the technical team which they said had its shortcomings that could affect the team’s expected progressed this year.

“We met the players and they had many suggestions and complaints but chief among those was that we should bring new faces in the technical team and do away with the set up we had,” said committee chairman Dumile Moyo.

“We hoped that we would offer the coaches a new contract which had already been drafted but that has hit a snag with the latest developments and it means we will have to go into more meetings and present the players’ views to the board.”

Moyo added that they would look seriously into the players’ grievances in order to have an undivided dressing room.

Dawson who led the team to the Victoria Cup win over Kenya and Uganda and also saw the team qualify for the Africa Cup Group A, which gives the team a shot at the 2015 World Cup qualifiers, was assisted by Cyprian Mandenge last term and had been set to retain his post

The team is set to play in the Victoria Cup starting in July before the Africa Cup but training and friendly matches have been set for later this month.

The plans could be hindered with the Zimbabwe Rugby Union AGM set for the weekend where new administration could take over.

After an all conquering year the Sables were not happy with their remuneration and the committee seeks to make improvements.
