SA tycoon accused of bribes killed in crash

Gavin Watson, the head of a South African firm accused of corruption, has died in a car crash close to Johannesburg’s main airport.

Police described the accident as “horrific”, and journalists have shared photos from the scene:

The 71-year-old was the CEO of Bosasa, now trading as African Global Group, which has won lucrative government contracts in the past and is currently under investigation at the country’s state capture inquiry for corruption and bribery.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also  reportedly received a controversial donation of about $35,000 (£27,300) from Watson for his campaign for the leadership of the governing African National Congress (ANC) party
