SABC News Crew Robbery Suspects Arrested
South African police have arrested four foreigners in connection with the robbery of an SABC news team earlier this week.
The robbery was caught on camera and made international news headlines. The SABC news team was robbed at gunpoint while preparing for a live television broadcast on a bridge near Milpark hospital in Johannesburg.
As Vuyo Mvoko was reporting on Zambian President Edgar Lungu’s arrival in South Africa to undergo possible surgery, about four armed men demanded that the SABC crew hand over their cell phones, laptops and broadcasting equipment.
SABC TV News reporter Chriselda Lewis and Foreign Editor Sophie Mokoena were also present at the scene and they handed over their cell phones to the armed men.
Police say they’ve recovered some of the goods stolen during the robbery. This after Gauteng Police asked for the public’s help to identify the armed men that robbed an SABC crew at gunpoint.
