Sharon Macheso Now Protected Against Husband
Sharon Macheso, daughter to popular sungura king Alick, has won a protection order against her husband Kudakwashe Munetsi.
The two were embroiled in a bitter domestic dispute, barely two months after a colourful wedding held in Harare.
Chitungwiza magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa granted the provisional protection order on Monday.
In her affidavit Sharon, who is represented by Norman Mugiya, told the court that she married Munetsi on August 6, this year in terms of the Marriage Act (Chapter 5:11).
“Barely a month into the marriage the conduct of the respondent (Munetsi) has been hostile towards me in that he has on several occasions’ perpetrated acts of physical violence as well as verbal assault on my person,” Sharon said.
She said Munetsi’s actions were a result of alcohol and drug abuse.
“…he has a penchant for drinking Bron Cleer, he also smokes cannabis and abuses amtriplin pills. After taking these drugs he becomes violent, uncooperative and acts in an unbecoming manner,” she said.
She said the last incident took place on October 12, after Munetsi spent most of the day drinking. Sharon told the court that she confronted Munetsi over the issue and he started abusing her verbally.
She further said that Munetsi told her that he wanted to drag the Macheso name into the mud and demanded money, claiming that they had spent a lot of cash renovating the house which was given to them as a gift on their wedding.
“He then went on to physically assault me using open palms, fists … whilst I lay helplessly on the floor. The most despicable thing is that he directed his assault on my abdomen when he fully knows that I am pregnant,” Sharon said.
She told the court that she suffered serious injuries, claiming there was a real danger she might have a miscarriage.
She later filed criminal charges against Munetsi and the matter is on-going at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
She said she had returned to her parents’ house because of the abuse, but said Munetsi was continuously phoning her demanding her to return home, threatening to commit suicide if she refused.
Munetsi is denying the domestic violence charges, and claims Sharon is lying.
