South African Airways Acquiring New Fleet
Johannesburg, May 26, 2014-South African Airways (SAA) says as part of its turn-around strategy, it’s in the process of acquiring a new fleet of long-haul aircraft.
SAA has sent representatives to the Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, for an inspection of potential aircraft.
SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali says buying news planes is part of the airline’s long-term strategy towards becoming more profitable.
“The acquisition of a new aircraft is the replacement of our narrow body fleet which has to be understood in the context of implementation of our long-term strategy.”
He says their current fleet has a high fuel consumption which pushes their operating costs high.
“Replacing the fleet will help reduce our operating cost and will bring us closer to profit-making levels,” says Tlali.
