The Pope Is On Cheap Drugs, Says SA Backer Of Anti-Gay Pastor

JOHANNESBURG – Cape Town pastor Oscar Bougardt has come out in defence of controversial anti-gay US preacher Steven Anderson.

Bougardt said in an interview on Friday that he would personally accommodate the American, with whom he agrees that homosexuality is an “abomination”.

Asked about Pope Francis’s statements that it is not for him to judge homosexuals, Bougardt retorted: “I think that the Pope is on cheap drugs.”

Andersen’s visit to South Africa later this month has stirred controversy, with calls and a petition for him to be barred from entering.

Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Njongonkulu Ndungane said on Friday the US preacher was not welcome in South Africa.
