Police sources revealed Thursday that the controversial police officer, who was awaiting sentence for assaulting and severely
injuring his wife, Zvikomborero Paunganwa, collapsed at Tomlison Depot in Harare.
“He had probably come to Harare ahead of his sentence which is due this week,” said the source.
“All we hear is that he just collapsed and died. Whether this had anything to do with the allegations he is facing is all speculation.”
Jangara was the Officer Commanding Fairbridge Support Unit in Bulawayo.
A known supporter of President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF party, Jangara masterminded the brutal assault of MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and civic society leaders in March 2007.
He is among Mugabe’s loyalists who were slapped with western sanctions for rights abuses although his name was controversially struck off the blacklist a few months ago.
