Tsvangirai waited for about 10 minutes and later decided to leave after Zanu (PF) supporters continued heckling and singing mockery songs.
They were singing “hauziwe uri kutonga, VaMugabe ndiwo wari kutonga” . (You don’t know who is ruling, its Mugabe who is ruling).
Tsvangirai was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Authur Mutambara.
Mutambara addressing journalists after Tsvangirai had left said Tekere is a hero.
“He is a soldier of soldiers, as far as heroism is concerned this is as good as it gets, there is no hero living or dead who is of higher rank than Edgar Tekere. There is no Zimbabwean who has moral authority to look at his record and make a determination about his heroism, the people of Zimbabwean have declared by themselves that Tekere is a hero, an assessment of the liberation struggle is not possible without invoking the name Edgar Tekere.
Meanwhile Zanu (PF) Manicaland Province have recommended that Edgar “Two Boy” Tekere be made a national hero. Tekere died on Tuesday at Murambi Garden clinic after a long battle with cancer.
Zanu (PF) Central Committe Member Esau Mupfumi who was speaking on behalf of the provincial chairman Mike Madiro who is in Harare said as a province they had reached recommended that Tekere be given hero status.
“The chairman is in Harare where he is running around to see that Cde Tekere is buried at the national heroes acre…because he fought for the freedom that we are enjoying right now,” said Mupfumi.
The Zanu (PF) Manicaland deputy secretary for information and publicity Charles Samuriwo said as a province they are gathered at Tekere’s house to celebrate the life of a hero.
“It is our wish that he be interred at the national shrine where his fellow comrades are resting,” said Samuriwo.
