Tsvangirai's Wife Embarrasses Delegates

Elizabeth, who visibly showed stage fright, struggled to pronounce the word “reiterate” and repeated the mistake five times. She struggled with other words and continuously apologised.

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) top officials who included, Thokhozani Khupe, Teresa Makone and husband Ian, Paurina Mpariwa,Sekai Holland,Lucia Matibenga, Henry Madzorera were heard whispering with bowed  heads as a sign of embarrassment.

Deputy Media Information and Publicity Minister Murisi Zwizwai was the master of ceremonies at the event also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, several ministers and diplomats.

Delegates at the event blamed the Prime Minister’s office for failing to groom her privately before making public presentations.

Two days after her customary marriage with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, Elizabeth made a surprise appearance at a High Court bail hearing for the MDC activists who are in remand on allegations of killing a police officer.

That was followed with a visit to Chikurubi Maximum Prisons where she went to see the activists.

Macheka’s third public appearance after her marriage to Tsvangirai was that of her party’s 13th anniversary celebrations in Bulawayo.

In Bulawayo she visited King George IV Memorial School for the disabled where she made some donations. She also officiated at an event held in Chitungwiza to mark the International Day of the Girl by organised by the Girl Child Network.

Last week she held a private function at her Highlands house where again she donated goodies to the disadvantaged. On Wednesday afternoon she had made some donations to the families of the detained MDC activists.
