A Ugandan patient photographed inside a bank two weeks ago withdrawing money to pay for his medical bills has died and is expected to be buried on Tuesday, his daughter has told the private Daily Monitor newspaper
Real estate businessman John Zabazungu was pictured in a bank office in the capital, Kampala, looking fragile, wearing an oxygen face mask and surrounded by medical attendants.
The photo went viral, sparking debate on the ethical conduct of those involved.
At the time one of his sons reportedly blamed a deterioration in his father’s condition on the trip.
Mr Zabazungu’s daughter, Molly Nakato, told the Monitor that her father was then transferred for treatment from Nakasero Hospital to a specialist unit at Mulago Hospital, where he died on Sunday.
