“We have never been involved in composing jingles for Zanu (PF) or any aother political party,” said Dube.
Radio VOP carried a story on August 08, alleging that Umthathi Theatre Works was involved in the composition of Zanu (PF) Jingles in 2002.
“My concern is that the story is on Google and it will tarnish our image as an organisation as we have never done anything political since formation,” said Dube.
He said the source that gave the story to Radio VOP was working against his group.
“We are a group of young people trying to make a living through the arts, ” he said, adding that the media like Radio VOP should not tarnish their image internationally.
Radio VOP has since established that the group was not involved in the composition of the jingles as it had been made to understand from its source and sincerely apologise for the embarassment the story caused.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation is currently playing pro- Zanu (PF) jingles in Shona.
The jingles, which were done by Zanu (PF) Mbare choir under the supervision of the Zanu (PF) Secretary for commissariat and Information minister, Webster Shamu have already caused a stir in the government of national unity. The jingles praise Mugabe and his two vice presidents while denigrating the Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
