Unicef Calls For Child Survival Strategy In Zim

The agency wants the plan to focus on antenatal care to help prevent newborn disorders.
Expensive hospital fees are preventing pregnant women from attending antenatal clinics. The agency says this leads to newborn disorders going undetected. Unicef estimates that 100 children under the age of five die across Zimbabwe each day.
Unicef representative Peter Salama says: “We already know that newborn disorders are the number one cause of under five deaths in the country as a whole. We also know that skilled attendance has declined remarkably across the country.”
