US: Egypt Must Complete Transition

“She is going to say: ‘You have to stick with it. You have to keep going’,” a senior US official told reporters.

“She will encourage Tantawi, as she will encourage Morsi, and civil society, to engage in that dialogue and to avoid the kinds of confrontation that could potentially lead to the transition veering off track.”

The official was referring to President Mohammed Morsi, sworn in as Egypt’s new head of state on 30 June, and Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the powerful council of army generals that steered the post-Hosni Mubarak transition, who she is due to meet during a trip to Cairo.- Reuters
