“The inaugural Bornwell Chakaodza Memorial lecture is named in memory of seasoned and deeply respected journalist Bornwell Cakaodza, who was the deputy chairperson of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe Board,” VMCZ said in a statement.
“Following Chakaodza’s death early this year, VMCZ instituted the annual memorial lectures in his honour in which leading professionals and academics will be invited to speak generally about his shared vision.
“The memorial lecture will be held in remembrance of Chakaodza’s immense contribution to freedom of expression, his efforts to promote professionalism in the media and his tireless work to advance the principle of media self regulation in Zimbabwe.”
Veteran journalist and now MDC director of Information William Bango and Kindness Paradza, another veteran journalist turned Zanu PF politicians are billed to deliver the inaugural lecture at the Harare Press club next week.
Chakaodza, who died at the age of 59, edited the Standard Newspaper and the state controlled Herald.
At the time of his death, he was columnist with the Financial Gazette.
