Vice President Nkomo Burial Monday
Harare, January 21, 2013 – Vice President, John Nkomo, who died of cancer last Thursday is set for burial at the national shrine on Monday.
Nkomo’s body, which was viewed by people from Matabeleland on Sunday, will be laid at the heroes’ acre where thousands are expected to go and listen to President Robert Mugabe’s speech.
Political analysts fear Nkomo’s death will spark succession battles on who will take over the post, which was created when Zanu (PF) and PF ZAPU merged in a unity accord in the 1987.
Zanu (PF’s) party chair Simon Khaya-Moyo is being viewed as the front runner to succeed Nkomo, although it is unclear who will take his post.
