VP Mujuru Farmhouse Burnt To Ashes

A thatched farmhouse belonging to Vice President Joice Mujuru in Ruwa has been destroyed by fire that had been lit in an attempt to burn a snake.

The thatched roof of the farmhouse located at Plot Number 9 in Ruwa, was reduced to ashes when a fire that was started by one of the caretakers early this morning was blown by the wind and spread to nearby buildings.

According to an eye witness, the fire started when he was attempting to burn a snake resulting in a run accommodating ducks catching fire and spreading to the adjacent kitchen and the main house.

Neighbours who rushed to the scene said they tried to put out the fire, but failed to contain the raging flames.

They however managed to salvage some of the property.

When the news arrived at the scene, fire fighters from the Harare brigade were still trying to put out flames, but the kitchen and the main house had already curved in.

Chief Fire Officer Sevias Mugavha said they arrived at the scene in about 45 minutes.

At the scene, some police details were in the process of gathering information to get the real cause of the fire.

The value of the property destroyed in the fire could not be established immediately.
