Warriors Move Up Without Kicking A Ball
According to the latest rankings released by the world soccer governing body Wednesday, the Warriors are now placed 104 in the world up from 106 despite having last played a game in February in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi which they lost 2-1.
The Warriors have a total of 328 points.
The Warriors who moved two places up the African football ladder are now placed 25th having been number 27 in the last rankings updated on March 7.
The only major change in Africa is the swap between Zambia and Mali which has seen the West Africans dislodge the Zambians from fourth position while the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Algeria remain the top football teams in Africa.
Spain remains the top world football playing nation followed by Germany, and Uruguay. The Netherlands are down to fourth followed by Portugal and former world champions Brazil.
The next rankings Fifa World Rankings will be updated on May 9, close to a month before Zimbabwe take on Burundi in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier which has been pencilled for June 3.
Zimbabwe are desperate to win that match and progress to the next stage having lost the first leg 2-1 in Bujumbura in February.
Meanwhile, Motor Action are through to the final of the Independence Trophy after beating Dynamos 2-1 at Rufaro Stadium Wednesday. Goals by Gift Phiri and Ishmael Lawe gave the Mighty Bulls their second cup final with a win over the team that beat them by an identical score line in the NetOne Charity Shield.
Roderick Mutuma turned from hero to villain for Dynamos after he converted and then was sent off for a second bookable offence.
