Zaka, January 16, 2014 – Zanu(PF) looks set for victory in the Zaka Ward 32 by-election to be held on January 23 this year as it is giving all villagers in the area seed and fertiliser.
A Mirror correspondent in the area said Zanu (PF) was the most visible party in the campaign trail with various meetings being held and seed and fertiliser being distributed.
To make matters better for Zanu(PF), MDC-T has split into two in the ward after its secretary for the ward Enock Chikamhi defected to the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) party led by Professor Lovemore Madhuku and is standing against his former party as an NCA candidate.
MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa condemned as vote-buying the distribution of agricultural inputs in Ward 32.Efforts to get a comment from Zanu(PF) spokesperson Rugare Gumbo on vote buying were fruitless.
“We are on record as having called for the reforms in the manner in which votes and the entire electoral procedure is handled. We condemn the abuse of food by Zanu (PF),taking advantage of the food crisis to force people to vote for them.
“We are aware that they continue to intimidate villagers and their traditional leaders at a time such acts should be buried in our history books. As long as we do not win our fight against Zanu(PF) to change the political and electoral landscape, these problems will continue to affect us as Zimbabweans” said Chamisa.
