Zambian singer retraces Zim roots

A rising Zambian singer who has Zimbabwean roots is eager to showcase his music prowess in Zimbabwe by holding shows across the country.

Speaking to Radio VOP from Lusaka ,Sakhile Matotoba known as Sakie Africa in the Zambian showbiz ,he is desperately looking forward to perform in the country of  birth of his late grandparents and is eager to court Zimbabwean promoters to realise this dream.

“I have origins in Zimbabwe because my grandparents hailed from there and also did part of my secondary education at Sizane High   in Bulawayo after the death of my father.

“It is with such a  background that I need to come back in Zimbabwe and be able to stage shows both for my nostalgia and to market my music hence my call for any music promoter out in Zimbabwe to make this happen ,”said  Sakie Africa.

The 31-year-old artiste who sings R&B, Pop  Afro and House music started music way back as a  young child singing in the Seventh Day Adventist church choir in Barlastone Park.

He says he fell in love with Kwaito and House music while in High School in Bulawayo

The affable singer  has collaborated   with   popular Zambian artistes that include  General Ozzy , Kidman, Camsta , Arial and Krytic .

Sakie’s debut album ‘Choices’ was released on April 1st,2019   and contains over 10 soothing tracks which include  One Chance, Energy, Sandile, Hello,Fake Apology, Irreplaceable  just to mention  but a few.

The artiste has already released videos for the two tracks ‘Hello’ and ‘Irreplaceable’.

Outside music, the Sakhile is a procurement and stores manager at Eden University in Lusaka,Zambia.

The singer adds to a number of many Zambian artistes who include songbird Mampi and Shyman  Shaizo who are proud of their Zimbabwean roots ,both artistes’ mothers are from Zimbabwe.
