Maziva (25) and boyfriend, Nyasha Maridadi (23), face charges of terminating pregnancy.
The two who reside in Cranborne surburb are also being charged under the Burial and Cremation Act for dumping a foetus. They allegedly refused to be medically examined after their arrest, the court heard.
The two were Thursday released on $100 bail by Harare magistrate, Olivia Mariga.
The state alleges that on September 15 this year the couple went to a bushy area in Msasa’s industrial area where they terminated her pregnancy after which they burnt the foetus in a rubbish bin.
Upon seeing rubbish burning at the bushy area, passersby’s went to investigate and saw the two burning the rubbish were they discovered a foetus after which a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the two.
They are expected to re-appear before the court on November 8.
Abortion is a crime in Zimbabwe unless a court rules in favour of it or in a case where an expecting mother can die because of the pregnancy or in cases of when a woman is impregnated through rape.
