Zimbabwean Prisoners Escape From SA Jail

“We are getting information and are following leads,” said Lieutenant Mohale Ramatseba.

Police have not determined who helped the prisoners escape, or explained why the police officers on duty at the time did not attempt to stop them.

The six, all from Zimbabwe, sawed through iron cell bars after 1am on Monday.

“We do not know how they got the saw,” said Ramatseba.

Four of them were awaiting trial prisoners, accused of crimes ranging from murder to robbery, and two others were convicted and sentenced on Friday for theft, housebreaking and possession of an unlicensed firearm. – Sapa
