Zimbabwe's MDC Minister Arrested

MDC national welfare officer Kerry Kay, wife to the MP, told RadioVOP on Friday afternoon that six police details who were in civilian attire
stormed the couple’s Helenvale House in Harare armed with a search warrant.

“They had a search warrant saying that their boss had reason to believe he (Kay) was in possession of all sorts of illegal drugs and unlicensed firearms,” said Kerry Kay.

“They searched the house and the garage but found nothing except for our firearms which are licenced up to date. They then said they were
taking him to Harare Central police station for statements.”

According to the search warrant which was issued June 03 and signed by the Officer Commanding CID Drugs Chief Superintendent Njodzi, police
had reason to suspect Kay was in possession of “dagga, cocaine, heroine, hashish, ecstasy, pornographic material, smuggled goods, unlicenced firearms, and unregistered and expired drugs”.

She said she suspected this could be part of Zanu (PF)’s intimidation campaign against MDC ahead of the constitution making process.

Kerry said her husband sourced drugs, rubber gloves, syringes from an American church which he would distribute to hospitals in his constituency with the full knowledge of the authorities. She said this had been going on for four years without any incident.
