Zim's Controversial Man Turned Woman Athlete Resurfaces

Mkwasine is sugar-growing estate 300 kilometers south of Masvingo.

Sithole brew controversy five years ago, when he masqueraded as a female athlete representing the country, in several international events before his cover was blown.

Five Kwekwe female athletes who said their dignity had been impaired as they undressed in front of him thinking he was female athlete sued for crimen injuria charges. Six witnesses including a doctor testified against Sithole at Kwekwe Magistrate Courts, before he was jailed at  Hwahwa Maximum Security Prison in Gweru.

Sithole who is understood to have been released from prison in late 2009 resurfaced in Chiredzi,where he has again torched controversy after he joined a boxing stable in Triangle and fighting as a female boxer.

He has assumed a new identity (Gamuchirai Sibanda).

Taonga Muzhanye, an official with the Triangle Boxing Stable said “she” has been with the stable since March last year.

Muzhanye said “she” came looking for a job at the estate but there were no vacancies and was roped in as a boxer since “she” showed interest in the sport.

Festus Dumbu, who is MDC-T Zaka West legislator and official of Masvingo Boxing Board said it only dawned on the board that they were dealing with an “unusual boxer” after “she” had already fought at a tournament in Rufaro Hall in Chiredzi. The board have barred the controversial athlete from participating in their events.
