'Zvavanhu' Anchor Vimbai Chivaura Dies

Renowned academic and University of Zimbabwe lecturer, Dr Vimbai Gukwe Chivaura, has died.

Dr Chivaura who also served as a board member of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) died this morning at the Avenues Clinic in Harare after battling with liver cancer.

His wife Mrs Sophia Chivaura said the family was battling to come to terms with Dr Chivaura’s death.

His son Mutsigiri said he was deeply saddened by his father’s death.

Dr Chivaura who previously sat on the ZBC board of governors was a senior lecturer in the Department of English where he was teaching literature, media and communication studies.

He also presented various programmes on ZBC TV which focused on Zimbabwean and African culture like Zvavanhu and African Pride  with panelists such as Dr Tafataona Mahoso, Professors Sheunesu Mupepereki and Claude Mararike.

Dr Chivaura is survived by his wife Sophia and four children.

Mourners are gathered at House Number 49 Black Burn Road, Emerald Hill in Harare.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
